I’ll tell you a secret: I don’t really like donuts. Shhh! But I sure like this picture book about a bear who has cooked up a dozen donuts to eat before she settles down for winter:
LouAnn has cooked up a dozen donuts to munch on before she hibernates, but…Ding-Dong! LouAnn is a generous friend, so, of course, she’s willing to share with a visiting neighbor. Six for Woodrow and six for LouAnn. Besides, she can make more--there will be plenty to go around, until…Ding-Dong! Another friend arrives, just in time for a snack. Now she divides the new dozen for three: four for Woodrow, four for Clyde, and four for LouAnn. Until…well, you get the idea. Poor LouAnn’s doughnuts dwindle, even as she makes batch after batch. But with a dash of generosity, a pinch of kindness, and a little calculation, everyone will get fed in the end. With brightly colored, detailed illustrations, donut-decorated end papers (note the difference front and back), an apron-wearing bear, cute woodland creatures, rollicking rhyme, and a sprinkling of math cleverly mixed in, this book is sure to be a staple in your collection!
