What a wonderful day! If you want to read a picture book about celebrating YOU, just the way you are, I’ve got the perfect one for you. Here’s my review:
Little and not-so-little readers can always benefit hearing that they’re “okay” just the way they are, and this book does just that. Frank Murphy’s text encourages boys to embrace and celebrate everything that makes them unique; to be kind and helpful, smart and strong; to ask for help if they need it and to cry if they feel like it; and to be respectful of others around them. Kayla Harren’s soft illustrations perfectly match the book’s message and reflect our diverse world. We all need books like A BOY LIKE YOU, and, lucky for us, we have two--Murphy and Harren have paired up to also create A GIRL LIKE YOU. Check them both out!

I found the perfect book to celebrate Bubble Gum Day! Here’s my review:
If you’re looking for a silly read-aloud, this is the book for you. This cumulative tale about how a family tries to get a piece of gum out of a child’s hair will delight young readers. It’s full of bold, bright illustrations, ridiculous attempts, an unexpected resolution, and a hilarious twist ending. Adam Rex’s illustrations are fun, engaging, and very pink, and the main character’s facial expressions are hysterical. Be sure to check out the back cover and end papers, as they are an integral part of the story. ON ACCOUNT OF THE GUM is full of expertly executed page turns, an inevitable yet surprising ending (SO hard to do!), a bunny, a cat, and, of course, gum. Rex’s illustrations combined with rollicking text make this a perfect picture book that children will ask to hear over and over again.
