Am I the only one who doesn’t love bacon? For a while there I thought I was. Everyone seemed to be in on the bacon craze—maple bacon donuts, bacon ice cream, chocolate-covered bacon, chicken-fried bacon. I mean, really? Well, I may not love bacon, but I love this book about bacon:
If the cover (of a winking Bacon who is standing below his name in lights) doesn’t give you a clue about what this book is about, you won’t have to read beyond the first page to figure it out. In short, Bacon is pretty full of himself. Everyone loves him. Well, almost—not French Toast (who doesn’t like anyone) or the other breakfast meats who are a bit jealous of him. But I digress. Almost everyone loves Bacon, and Bacon loves all the attention he gets. Eventually he lets all the fame go to his head and, as a result, he’s not too nice to his old friends. This fun, cautionary tale is full of bright illustrations set in what appears to be a 50s-style diner. It includes bacon-wrapped end papers, smiling breakfast foods, fruits & veggies, burgers & club sandwiches, and stars Bacon, of course! Even if you don’t love bacon, I think you’ll love this cute & clever book.

Though I do enjoy the convenience and speed of email and texts, I still love to send and receive letters in the “snail” mail. Just like I still love to read an “actual” book. So, to celebrate this momentous day, here’s a book you can read that also contains letters:
Who can resist that cute dog on the cover? Apparently, a lot of people on Butternut Street, because poor Arfy has to ask everyone on the street if they’ll take him in. How could anyone turn him down? After all, he has a lot of great qualities: He’s potty trained, has his own squeaky bone, loves to play, promises to keep the floor clean and the house guarded, and writes a darn good letter. Surely someone would be lucky to have him, but you’ll have to read the book to find out who, if anyone, adopts adorable Arfy. This heart-warming, humorous book, written in epistolary form, has colorful illustrations of fire hydrants & stations, sticks & bones, houses & junk yards, and stamps & letters, of course. I love CAN I BE YOUR DOG? and I hope you will too!
