Do you have someone in your life who gives the best hugs? I hope so! George, the little boy in this book, has Stella to give him hugs when he needs them most. After I read it, I gave the book a hug. I think you’ll want to too.
George loves spending his Saturdays with Stella. They go fun places or stay home to make their own fun, buy tasty treats or make homemade cinnamon rolls, read, listen to music, or do nothing at all. Until George can’t spend his Saturdays with Stella anymore. Then George hates Saturdays. Candy Wellins’ just-right words convey all George’s emotions as he cycles from loving someone with all his heart to coping with loss to finding hope in a new future and a new someone to love, all while keeping the memories of Stella alive. Charlie Eve Ryan’s textured illustrations are soft and dreamy and capture George and his family’s expressions beautifully (and include a surprise under the jacket, which I always love!). Hugs all around for this book.
