Every year Santa puts a winter holiday book under our Christmas tree. One year, this one arrived. It’s been a favorite ever since. So, to commemorate Look for an Evergreen Day, I present my review of:
If you’re looking for a great read-aloud Christmas book, look no further! MR. WILLOWBY’S CHRISTMAS TREE has rhythm and rhyme, humor and heart, woodland creatures and whimsy, and a Christmas tree, of course. Actually, it has many trees. You see, Mr. Willowby discovers his giant tree is a bit too large for his parlor, so Baxter, the butler, chops off the top to make it fit. It seems a shame to waste the top, so he presents it to Miss Adelaide, the upstairs maid. The little tree is just a bit too tall for her table so…can you guess where this is going? Readers will want to keep reading to find out where the treetops end up next, will love the rollicking rhyme, and will love the expressive and detailed illustrations. They’ll also love the quaint and surprising ending. A Christmas classic!
